MOTHER PRAYED

      Mother knew life and she knew it was too hard to be faced alone. She knew that she needed help and she knew where to go for it.  The great preacher, Dr. George Truett, tells this story of his boyhood days in North Carolina .  He said that every morning his mother would go out into the apple orchard and spend a little time.  When she came back the light of heaven would be upon her face and there would be a sweet song upon her lips.  He and his brother were curious to know what happened out there in the orchard, so one day they hid themselves in the corner of the rail fence.  After a while, their mother came down to the orchard and knelt beneath an old apple tree.  She cried out to God for His help.  So said, “Lord, you have given me these boys, and I cannot bring them up in the right way without Your help.  I will make shipwreck of their lives if I cannot have that help.”  The boys went back to their play that day, but they had learned a great secret. They had learned that there was only one course of strength and help, and that source was God.  They had learned this secret as their mother prayed.  Mother took time to pray and often saved the family through her prayers.  Maybe she saw her boy growing up and slipping away a bit from the Christ-like life. Then night after night on her knees she would pray: “Oh God, save my boy!”  Later she saw her prayers answered as that boy made his surrender to Christ and began to live a Christian life.   I have a friend in North Carolina , who is a fine Christian woman.  Her daughter married and lived next door. Her husband was not a Christian. This dear mother prayed much that her son-in-law might find Christ.  One night she could not sleep and as she prayed earnestly for his salvation, she felt that her prayers were going to be answered. A few mornings later her daughter called her and said, “Mother, I have something wonderful to tell you.” The mother answered, “I know what it is.  Charlie was saved last night.”  “But, mother,” said the daughter, “how did you know?” Then she told the daughter how she had felt that God had promised to answer her prayers. Mother knew how to pray.  Mother had a pathway to the Throne of Grace and she used it. “Her children rise up, and call her blessed” (Proverbs 31:28).

HUGS 'N TUGS

                   By Wendy Greiner Lefko

      A few phone calls, a couple of sibling squabbles, and 2 Jehovah’s Witnesses at the door.  Minor disturbances indeed, but still enough to be successful interruptions of my quiet time with the Lord one day recently.  It’s often not easy, as any mother can attest to, to find time to spend alone with the Lord.  If it’s not one distraction it’s another, and it can be continual from sun up to sun down.  But it’s when I finally am able to have that time with God that I realize two things—just how much I need it, and just how much the enemy hates it.  He knows how vital it is to our Christian walk and how powerful it can be in our effectiveness for Christ.  He hates nothing more than when God’s children spend time with their Heavenly Father, and he’ll do all he can to keep it from happening.  So I try not to be surprised when interruptions come at a brisk pace whenever I attempt to have that time with the Lord.  Whether it’s early morning or late at night, life doesn’t seem to want to cooperate with such meaningful plans.  But by God’s grace when I am able to seize those quiet moments with Him, I am blessed beyond measure and strengthened for the daily grind with power and peace that only God can give.  Showing me once again that no matter how hard Satan may try to keep me from the Throne of Grace, “Greater is He that is in me, than he that is in the world”!  I know interruptions and distractions await me at every turn, but God is still there and He will make a way for me to find Him when I seek Him with all my heart.  “And ye shall seek Me, and find Me, when ye shall search for Me with all your heart” (Jeremiah 29:13).

DEEP LIVING

We love to spread our branches;  the root-life we neglect.
We love to shine in public, and human praise expect;
While in the inner chamber, where creature voices cease,
We may meet God in silence and breathe in Heaven’s peace.

The secret of deep living, lies in the secret place
Where, time and sense forgotten, we see God face to face;
Beyond mere forms and symbols, beyond mere words and signs,
Where in that hidden temple, the light eternal shines.

LOOK TO CHRIST

If you want to be distressed, look within.
If you want to be defeated, look back.
If you want to be distracted, look around.
If you want to be dismayed, look before.
If you want to be delivered, look up .
If you want to be delighted, look to Christ.

THE BEST OFLIFELINE

Dear FCI Family,

         We certainly missed being able to hold our Annual banquet this year and having the opportunity to see all you dear friends.  Lord willing, we hope to have it next year.  Our plans are in His hands.  We want to thank all  who sent in gifts they had planned to give at our banquet.  We are ever so grateful for such faithfulness and generosity.  We are thrilled to be able to report that about 12 youth gave their hearts to Christ in one of our services this past month.  We rejoice with the angels in heaven over it!  You are making this possible.

         The update on Dad (Claire) is very encouraging.  He was asked by the convalescent home workers to play one Sunday for their Chapel service. Dad played a few hymns on the piano such as “Because He lives” but this time, he also played “Sweet Hour Of Prayer” on his “4-in-hand-bells” in his wheelchair!  God gave him the strength in his arms and hands to play them perfectly without stopping.  We were all shocked at his ability to do this!  Only God!   After a recent examination, the doctors felt he was well enough to receive his next Chemo treatment. Nausea and fatigue were his only side effects. (Praise the Lord!). The day after the Chemo, we rejoiced over the fact that Dad was able to come home because of his improvement in rehab.  Of course, Dad, Mom and the rest of our family were thrilled beyond words.  We all were able to gather there at the house and celebrate.

   Another miracle is that, at this time, he is free from bone pain as well!  The Lord has taken it away by his healing hand. He has not had any more fractures and his bones seem to be stronger, so much so that Dad does not need ANY pain medication.  He is able to walk without a walker and even climb the stairs on his own! We marvel at God’s mercy and answered prayer.   Through some of the gifts that many of you sent for personal expenses for Dad and Mom, we were able to purchase a motorized recliner for Dad that actually raises his body out of the chair without any effort on his part. He loves it!  His medical coverage allows six visits a month by a nurse to check on him.  If there are no setbacks, he will be due for his next Chemo treatment the middle of May.

   Dad wishes to thank all of you for your prayers, kindness and concern for him.  FCI would like to purchase a notebook computer for Dad, that he can use while sitting in the recliner or lying in bed.  We have the model picked out and are going to order it, trusting the Lord to bring in the funds needed for this expense.

   Thank you again, for your continued support and prayers for both Dad and the ministry.  God is “building His church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it”!

THE CONQUEROR

                   No matter how the storms may rage
                Upon the sea of life,
                No matter how the waves may beat,
                No matter what the strife;
                The Lord is just the same today
                As when He walked the sea,
                And He can conquer every storm
                That life may send to thee.
                The waves are raging everywhere
                And men are sore distressed,
                But all they need is found in Him
                Who giveth perfect rest;
                So cast your care upon the Lord
                Whose strength will never fail,
                He calms the waves for your frail ship
                His power will e’er prevail

WANTED…MEN

                     There is a story to the effect that a certain society in South Africa once wrote the missionary,  David Livingston: “Have you found a good road to where you are? If so, we want to know how to send other men to join you.”  Livingston replied: “If you have men who will come ONLY if they know there is a good road, I DON’T WANT THEM.  I want men who will come if there is NO road at all.”  What a crying need there is for such men in the work of Christ today!

No one can possibly go forward in the strength of the Lord until he has first learned to stand still in his own helplessness.

TRUST

A pilot was experiencing difficulty in landing his plane because of fog; and the airport decided to bring him in by radar.  As he began to receive directions from the ground he suddenly remembered a tall pole in the flight path, and appealed in panic to the control tower about it.   The reply came bluntly, “You obey instructions; we’ll take care of the obstructions.”  How many a Christian hesitates to obey God’s Word because of problems and difficulties!  If we only obey, He is capable of dealing with the “obstructions”.

CONVERSIONS

     D.L. Moody is said to have once returned from a meeting with a report of “two and one-half conversions.” I suppose you mean two adults and one child,” said the man who was his host. “No”, said Mr. Moody, “I mean two children and one adult.  You see, the children can give their whole lives, but the adult only has half of his left to give.”  How true this is!  Suppose that the Apostle Paul would have been converted at 70 instead of 25.  There was a Matthew Henry because he was converted at the age of 11, and not at 70.  There was a Jonathan Edwards because he was converted at eight and not at 80. And there was a Richard Baxter because he was converted at 6 instead of 60.

PRAISE & PRAYER

Again, we want to thank those of you who sent beautiful cards, letters, E-mails and phone calls to Claire and the family. Thank you so very much!  We have been so up-lifted by all your words of encouragement.  Here is just one of the many touching notes sent to Claire this past month. “My Dear Beloved Claire,  I read Hearthstone yesterday. It brought tears to my eyes when I read you played the piano and how the people responded.  Remember; “God sends us where He wants to be through us”, You are being a great blessing in this trial as you are being refined as gold (1 Peter 1:6-9).  The Lord knew He could trust you in this time of testing that He would receive the glory.  You are in our hearts and prayers.  Much love  by all,  H & J.”

* Praise for 12 youth who gave their hearts to Christ at a Youth Rally in April .
*Praise for answered prayer concerning the day by day           provisions made for the ministry as well as the medical needs for Claire.
*Praise for Claire’s good response to his Chemo treatment and the strength and weight he is regaining.  He had dropped to 137 lbs at one point.
*Pray for God’s grace and hand of healing upon Claire in the difficult days ahead.
*Pray for the ministry of Family Christian Inspiration:  that souls would be brought to Christ, families strengthened and Christians encouraged.
