STRENGTH FOR THE DAY

DAY TWENTY-FIVE

GROWING STRONG

"Their strength is to sit still" (Isaiah 30:7).

All too often we seek to gain strength through self-efforts -- walking! -- running! -- doing! But God says: Your "strength is to sit still"

Do you find it hard to stop doing and just sit, let alone sit "still"?  You fidgit, and, try as you might, you cannot get comfortable. Stop struggling. Let go and let God.

God has a special message for you. It is the secret Naomi gave to her daughter-in-law, Ruth. She said, "Sit still, my daughter, until thou know how the matter will fall" (Ruth 3:18).

Listen as God says: "Sit still, My daughter. Sit still, My son." Wait in silence for what God in His sovereignty ordains for your life. Wait expectantly. God can do more while you sit still in the most imperfect circumstances than you could do through the most perfect circumstances.

When you feel so humanly weak that you can do nothing, God can become exceedingly great in your stillness and give you renewed strength and a new beginning, even as He did for Ruth. After her bereavement, God gave her a husband and a baby son. Her son, Obed, was a link in the line of the coming Messiah, Jesus Christ. Could Ruth have asked for more?
