STRENGTH FOR THE DAY

DAY NINETEEN

WHERE ARE MY TEARS?

"Thou tellest my wanderings: put Thou my tears into Thy bottle: are they not in Thy book?" (Psalm 56:8)

It has been said that tears are the language of the soul. There are tears of sorrow, tears of hurt, tears of remorse, tears of joy. Mourners in Bible times considered tears so important that they collected them in bottles made of glass or agate.

Sir Alexander Fleming, an English scientist, claimed that "human tears are efficient microbe killers. The antiseptic from one teaspoon of tears could purify one hundred gallons of water." If only your tears could purify your past or cancel the wrongs you have done, or the wrongs done to you! If only they could purify a loved one for whom you grieve. But they cannot.

Our tears, however, do not go unnoticed by the Son of God. He also wept (John 11:35). No one understands like Jesus. He can comfort your weeping heart. He sees each falling tear. He can forgive the bitter past. He makes all things new. He can give you a new start -- today. The Savior who wept can purify and justify your bleeding, broken heart.

God never wastes His children's pain! He transforms tears into jewels of joy! Let Him!
