"I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and He shall strengthen thine heart; wait, I say, on the Lord" (Psalm 27:13,14).
God is worth waiting for. Warner Sallman was a young artist who had painted the famous picture of the head of Christ. In 1917, Sallman was told by his doctor: "You have Tuberculosis of the lymph glands. Without surgery, I believe you have about three months to live." Sallman brought the grim news to his young wife, who was expecting their first baby.
Mrs. Sallman responded quietly:" We will pray and thank God for the three months. We will ask Him to use us to the limit. If He will mercifully give us more time, we shall be grateful for it." They knelt together in trusting prayer. A marvelous healing took place. Warner Sallman never needed surgery. For many years he remained a committed Christian in good health.
Our times are in His hands! It has been said that the dedicated Christian is immortal until his work on earth is done. Many a weak heart has been strengthened by continuing trust in the goodness of the Lord.
