"It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn Thy statutes" (Psalm 119:17).
You have been afflicted? Good! That is what the Psalmist is saying. You are in the school of God, and He is teaching you in many ways, though you may not comprehend it all. The experiments in Gods chemistry class can baffle you at times. His formulas for life include mixtures of tears and laughter, pain and joy.
Then there is Gods mathematics. If you subtract your anxious cares and add true, honest, just, pure, lovely thoughts, you will be blessed with multiplied peace (Philippians 4:6-8). "Rightly divide the Word of truth" in the midst of your affliction and you will not need to be ashamed (2 Timothy 2:15).
This is a test! You are learning from God. The Great Teacher knows the right course for you, so dont by-pass it. Study and learn. You can pass with flying colors, and others can benefit from your experiences.
Oh God, let not my trials drive me from You, but plunge me into the depths of Your Word that I might learn more of Your sovereignty.
Affliction comes in the school
of God,
But only for my good;
Since tears and pain bring only gain,
I’ll thank Him as I should.
—E.R.G.
My Near One, You are nearer because of my trials.
