DAY THREE

A LOVING OUTREACH

"Fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind" (Philippians 2:2).

Are you depressed?  Dr. Karl Menninger, a renowned psychiatrist, was asked at a forum what a person should do if he felt a nervous breakdown coming on.  He did not say, "Go to a psychiatrist."  Instead he answered, "Lock up your house, go across the railway tracks.  Find someone in need and do something for him."

Depression can be triggered by a critical judgmental attitude.  Comparing oneself continuously to another may cause a sense of despair and despondency.

Reach out to others, even to your enemies.  Choose to love someone who is down.  Do some good deed on his behalf.  Repeat it again and again, without keeping score, and your nagging depression will begin to dissipate.  you will find yourself being lifted by your change of attitude.  your own hurt will be eased by your loving outreach.

"Love covers a multitude of sins" (1 Peter 4:8).

O use me, Lord, use even me,
Just as Thou wilt, and when, and where,
Until Thy blessed face I see —
Thy rest, Thy joy, Thy glory share.
