DAY TWENTY-FOUR

S.O.S.

"In my distress I cried unto the Lord, and He heard me . . . Deliver my soul, O Lord, from lying lips, and from a deceitful tongue" (Psalm 120:1,2).

The Psalmist is speaking of something that is as damaging as a sword, an arrow, a gun. It is a tool we use regularly, for good or evil. Lives have been ruined by this weapon. What is it? The tongue!

Have you been hurt by someone’s tongue? Have you hurt another with this assault weapon?

A medical book speaks of a Geographical Tongue. The tongue is covered with white patches interspersed with bare, red areas and elevations and depressions of tissue. It looks like a miniature relief map. The condition usually clears up with a diet rich in vitamins.

It is possible to hurt people in any geographical location with the tongue. But the condition can be cured with a consistent diet of prayer, confession and God’s Word applied to the life.

"Keep thy tongue from evil" (Psalm 34:13).

Someone well advised: "Keep your words soft and sweet, for someday you may have to eat them." Lord, let the words of my mouth be pleasing to Thee!
