IN PASTURES GREEN

DAY FOUR

GENTLE SHEPHERD

"The Lord is my Shepherd. I shall not…Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life" (Psalm 23:1,6).

Permit me to boast about my Shepherd, as does the Psalmist. My Shepherd leads me beside still waters. He bountifully feeds me in pleasant meadows. He makes me rest in green pastures. He guides me into paths of righteousness. He gives expert care as He skillfully directs and manages my life. I lack nothing. I am satisfied.

My Shepherd tells me not to fear, even in the dark valley of affliction. He is the Lord of the valley and takes me safely through its frightening shadows. My Shepherd, however, does not keep me from affliction. "Affliction is the good man’s shining scene. Prosperity conceals its brightest ray. As night to stars, affliction gives luster to a man" (Young).

"God sometimes washes the eyes with tears that they may read aright His providence and His commandment" (Cuyler).

My Shepherd protects me in times of danger. He assures me that my two guardians—Goodness and Mercy, will follow me every day of my life.

Do you have such a Shepherd?
