ANCHORS OF HOPE
DAY ONE
READ HEBREWS 6:13-20
"Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which entereth into that within the veil; Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus" (Hebrews 6:19,20).
The writer draws from the custom of his day when ships could not make port under their own sail. A "forerunner" went from the ship and fastened a strong rope to the anchoria, a great rock embedded and immovable close to shore. By means of a winch the vessel was brought in.
Child of God, our anchor is cast within the veil where Christ, our forerunner has gone before. Because we are fastened to the solid rock, because we are joined to Christ, we shall make port at last. So take heart! Let the breakers roll and floods swell, the tides lift and the gales sweep. Let our sails be torn to shreds, our masts broken and carried off like driftwood. Let the timbers creek and the old ship rock and roll in the storm. We can enjoy the quiet of that Presence fast within the veil. We are safe and drawing nearer every day to heaven and home.
"I will hope continually, and will yet praise Thee more and more. My mouth shall show forth Thy righteousness and Thy salvation all the day"
(Psalm 71:14,15).
