THE THORN

God gave me a thorn when I asked for a gift,
And it pierced my heart through and through;
I wondered why He should do this to me,
Then He showed me what His love would do.

God used the thorn to pin aside
The veil that hid His face;
Through tears I saw my blessed Lord
Extending His mercy and grace.

Oft times in my life I forget Jesus face,
And sin blots His beauty from sight;
Then His love o'erflows and He hands me a thorn
To pin back the curtains of night.

God uses the thorn to pin aside
The veil that hides His face;
Through tears I see my blessed Lord
Extending His mercy and grace.

When my heart is sad and my sorrows abound,
And burdens are heavy to bear;
I know that He loves me and uses the thorn
To pin back those curtains of care.

God uses the thorn to pin aside
The veil that hides His face;
Through tears I see my blessed Lord
Extending His mercy and grace.
