THE ROUGHENED MILE

Pain for a season,
Strife for a while,
God has a reason
To roughen the mile.
Pleasure's elusive,
Plans fall apart,
Jesus will use it
To strengthen your heart.

The future's uncertain,
Time slips away;
Reason escapes you,
Skies turn to gray.
Where is the Lord now?
Why would He leave?
Doesn't He see
The heartache and grief?

He has not left,
And He never will.
Through every valley
He's there with you still.
He not only knows
What you're going through,
But He enters into
The heartache with you.

His grace is sufficient,
Of this we're assured.
No trial can change
The truth of God's Word.
God is still God!
We are still His!
This will not change,
Because Jesus Lives.

The above poem was written and dedicated to Dr. Richard Strauss when he spoke at America's Keswick and shared that he was suffering from Multiple Myeloma (bone cancer).  He is now with the Lord.
