MAKE MY HEART
A BETHLEHEM

Make my heart a Bethlehem,
Waiting for the King,
Ready to receive Him,
As the angels sing.

 Make my heart a stable,
Set apart and clean,
Simple but inviting,
Warm and welcoming.

 Make my heart a manger,
A place for Him to lay,
Prepared for Him in love,
While asking Him to stay.

 May my heart be all these things,
The Savior’s home to be,
Not just for now, but evermore,
As He resides in me.

Help me not to turn away
The King Who seeks a home;
May I be a welcome place
For Him to set His throne.

May I not in arrogance
Ignore the angels’ tune;
May I not so worldly be
To tell Him, “There’s no room.”

 Is my life so filled with things
This world alone provides,
That I’ve no room to ask Him in,
No place He can abide?

 Lord, make my heart a Bethlehem ,
Your humble home to be,
Always and forever more,
With open arms I welcome Thee!
