HOPES
AND DREAMS
Yesterday
was filled with hope,
Today—only despair;
Dreams were crushed and trampled on,
Dashed beyond repair.
Though
the future seemed so bright,
No obstacles remained;
Reality reared its ugly head,
All hopes and dreams to claim.
A
broken heart on bended knee,
My troubles bring me here;
I have no hope but Thee, O Lord,
Please let me feel You near.
I
know You have allowed these dreams
To slip right through my hands;
I know You have a purpose
Though I may not see Your plan.
You’re
teaching me through all these things
My fondest hopes and dreams
Mean nothing if they’re not from You,
No matter how it seems.
You
let these dreams of mine fall through
To show Yourself more real,
To show true joy abounds in You
And not in how I feel.
For
Your thoughts, Lord, are not my thoughts,
Your ways are not my ways;
They’re higher, greater, pure and true,
They’re filled with love and grace.
For
trial and storm may wipe away
All dreams for which I plead,
But naught can touch the truth I know
That You are all I need.
Though
I may not quite understand
Just why these things must be,
I’ve learned my hope can only rest
In Thee, Lord. Only Thee!

“Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope:
Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed,
for His compassions never fail.
They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.”
