AMERICA'S
FINEST HOUR

(Adapted from "Preserve Us A Nation"
by Charles Crismier)

America's "finest hour" is not the glory of a magnificent military victory but the grace of God being poured out upon the nation as we fall on our faces in repentance for sin and selfishness before our true "Founding Father"—God Himself.

Alexis de Tocqueville noted a century ago, "Not until I went into the churches of America and heard her pulpits flame with righteousness did I understand the secret of her genius and power."

Let our pulpits again flame, not with rhetoric, but in righteousness, with faith in the God who rules and governs in the affairs of men.    Only then can we stand against the tyranny of "political correctness" and the stripping of moral absolutes from our personal and national wardrobe.  May the flame of revival be kindled in our hearts with a blaze of God's glory that will sweep across the land.

The Lord, the Supreme Ruler of Nations, set His own conditions for revival, renewal, and restoration.  He said:

If my people . . .
will humble themselves,
and pray,
and seek my face,
and turn from their wicked ways:
then [and only then] will I hear from Heaven,
and will forgive their sin,
and will heal their land.
2 Chronicles 7:14

At the end of the 18th century the following statement was made about an ancient democracy, long before American democracy had been really tested:

"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government.  It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves money from the Public Treasury.  From that moment on the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the Public Treasury with a result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy always followed by dictatorship.  The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years.  Those nations have progressed through the following sequence."

"From bondage to spiritual faith;
From spiritual faith to great courage;
From courage to liberty;
From liberty to abundance;
From abundance to selfishness;
From selfishness to complacence;
From complacency to apathy;
From apathy to dependence;
From dependency back into bondage."

  • I am proud to be an American and unashamedly honor the flag.

  • I am grateful for the men and women who have fought to defend our freedoms.

  • I am committed to praying for my beloved country.

  • I am willing, at any price,  to be all that God wants me to be.

    "Lord, send a revival, and let it  begin with me!

I am only one, but I am one.
I cannot do everything, but I do something.
What I can do, I should do,
And by the grace of God, I will do.

STAR-SPANGLED BANNER
2nd Stanza

O thus be it e'er,
When free men shall stand
Between their loved home
And the war's desolation.

Blessed with victory and peace,
May the heaven-rescued land,
Praise the Power that hath made
And preserved us a nation.

Then conquer we must
When our cause it is just,
And this be our motto:
In God is our trust.

And the Star Spangled Banner
In triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free
And the home of the brave.

—Francis Scott Key
